Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST) continually empower its faculty and researchers through its Intellectual Property Office (IPO) and Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO). These support offices enable them to maintain and improve research activities in the College.
From 2008 to the present, the College has been able to generate a gross income of Php5,924,848 from instructional materials and software-developed systems. The faculty authored twenty-eight (28) instructional materials that were published and commercialized by the College. At present, more instructional materials are being prepared for publication. The College is also expanding its sales not only to WVCST students but also to students of other higher education institutions in Region VI and hopefully, the whole country.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) appointed the Former Deputy Director General (DDG) of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), Atty. Andrew Michael S. Ong as Director of its Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific (ASPAC) and will take effect on August 15, 2014.
One of Atty. Ong's biggest accomplishment as DDG of IPOPHL was the establishment of the Innovation and Technology Support Offices (ITSO) or "patent libraries" in the Philippines. ITSO is a project of IPOPHL together with WIPO to strengthen institutional capacity of universities and research-related institutions to access patent information and make use of the patent system. The ITSO network named him as the Father of ITSO.
University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP) has 24 patent applications under the PPIP (As of August 13, 2014)
